A selection of my ongoing research "Photographs for Sculptures" is on display at NOMA gallery.

Taking its title and cue from the BBC quiz game "X Marks the Spot" the show consists of documentation that pertains to the intersection of two or more places that have or had an intrinsic role within my art practice.

SHOW: IBM Icon of Progress for cultural impact using magnetic tape storage.

the lab gallery

My work was chosen by IBM for their 100th Anniversay "Icons of Progress" campaign for "Magnetic Tape Storage" alongside Zilvinas Kempinas.

In 2011, IBM reflects on 100 years of innovation, bold risks and transformative breakthroughs. We celebrate the big wins—and the mistakes we've overcome. We renew our purpose, unite in our legacy and define our aspirations for the future. Magnetic tape was first used for sound recording around 1930 and for video recording in 1951—one year before IBM found a way to use it for data storage. Over the years, magnetic tape has proven to be useful not only in recording art, but also as an art medium itself.

SHOW: Unraveling Tape, NOMA Gallery, San Francisco, CA

the lab gallery

NOMA Gallery is pleased to present Unraveling Tape, a group show examining the use of magnetic tape as material. The show includes new works by Bonnie Banks, Aaron Finnis, and Jacqueline Gordon. It also features sound installations by the writer duo Kieran Daly and Isaac Linder and the San Francisco Tape Music Collective.

As tape enters the pantheon of analogue fetishization, this show looks at it as a material utilized in the making of art just as any other. The works run the gamut of the obvious use of tape as the carrier of sound information to it being a substitute for pencil, pen or thread or it becoming a source of annoyance based on its technological shortcomings.
